Winter/Spring 2024 Off Ice Dance Classes

Dance is an essential component of figure skating, as it helps skaters develop the artistic expression and movement needed to perform at a high level. One of the key benefits of dance training for figure skaters is improved body awareness and control.

The Fort Collins Figure Skating Club is excited to offer dance classes this Winter/Spring..

Ballet and contemporary dance teacher from Studio West Dance Center will teach dance classes for figure skaters at EPIC on Fridays starting January 12 th and going to May 24th. Classes will NOT be held: March 15, April 5, May 10 or May 17th.

Classes will include ballet and contemporary instruction.

Classes will take place in the Off Ice Conditioning Room on FRIDAYS:

Classes for 12 and under: 4:15-5:00 pm COST $120

Classes for 13 and up: 5:00-6:00 pm COST $150

TO sign up fill out the form below and you will be invoiced for the entire semester: $120 for the 45 minute class and $150 for the 1 hour class. This cost is for the WHOLE SEMESTER. There will be no drop in rate or pro-rated rates. This is a one time fee. You will receive an invoice by email. You are NOT registered until your invoice has been paid. Off-ice classes are 30 – 45 min in length and incorporate a variety of activities and exercises to help build strength, stamina, skills, balance, coordination, and flexibility specifically tailored to figure skaters. Each session will include a warm-up and cool down built into its structure. Skaters of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. Please wear appropriate athletic shoes, clothing and bring a water bottle. This is an excellent supplement to on-ice training and will greatly improve on-ice skill development and greatly decrease the risk of injuries.

BALANCE TRAINING ESSENTIALS FOR FIGURE SKATERS

Register at the EPIC Front Desk or on the Recreator

Whether you are a top athlete in the world class, someone recovering from an injury, balance training is beneficial and necessary. This workshop will teach you how to Improve the communication between your brain and muscles. The exercises you will learn will help with hip stabilization, improve glute strength and this in turn improves core stabilization. Core stabilization in turn improves coordination, athletic skill, and posture. You don’t need to buy expensive equipment to improve your balance. You can do fun and effective exercises without any equipment. Adding 5 or 10 minutes of balance exercises to your workouts three times a week will effectively improve your balance skills. BODY ROLL YOUR TISSUE ISSUES

Body Roll Your Tissue Issues. Learn to stretch tight tissue that can linger in the body and loosen the hips, glutes, quads, hamstrings, t-band, upper and lower back, neck and chest using foam rollers and balls. Learn skills that will allow your body to recover from your athletics. Wear clothing that will allow you to move easily. Foam rollers and balls provided. Handouts Provided.
